DCPL Annual Membership Meeting
Join DCPL for our Annual Membership Meeting at the Federal-American Bank Building, designed in 1925 by Alfred C. Bossom in association with Jules Henri De Sibour. This building is noted for its elevated two-story banking floor, which is one of only twelve landmarked interiors in the city.
The architecture firm of Martinez + Johnson Architecture, the exhibition design firm of Gallagher & Associates, and the project management firm of Regan Associates, LLC, have been hired by the Armenian Assembly of America to convert the site into the Armenian Genocide Museum of America. The projected opening is in 2010.

Fall Program Schedule Announced
A busy fall season is in store for DCPL with several programs planned including walking tours, the Annual Membership Meeting, the Mayor’s Awards for Historic Preservation, and three new DC Modern events.
For more information about our upcoming events, watch for the next edition of our print newsletter, the DC Preservation Advocate, or view our online calendar.
Government Affairs
Among local current legislative issues that could have a direct impact upon the preservation community is a bill presented by DC Councilmember Marion Barry that would exempt properties owned by religious institutions from historic designation. In the upcoming edition of the DC Preservation Advocate, DCPL outlines its position against this bill. The full text of the proposed legislation can be viewed here.
Landmarks
DCPL presented a letter of support at the July 24th Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) hearing for the local landmark designation of the Washington Hilton Hotel at 1919 Conntecticut Avenue NW. The modernist hotel was erected in 1965 and was designed by William B. Tabler, FAIA. The HPRB voted in favor of the nomination 5-2.
New Staff Member
We are pleased to announce that Seth Tinkham has joined the DCPL staff, part-time, as a program assistant. Seth had been working over the summer as an intern. Seth is from Alexandria and received his B.A. from Connecticut College and his M.A. from Ruprecht-Karls Universitat Heidelberg. Seth's graduate thesis concerned historic preservation and Brutalist architecture. He will be actively involved with DC Modern as well as other programs. Welcome Seth!
