DC Modern: United States Tax Court Tour
DCPL teams with General Services Administration (GSA) to offer a rare public tour of Victor Lundy's United States Tax Court. Described as Washington's most "monumental" modern masterpiece, the Tax Court was designed in 1966 and built in 1974.

The Mead Center for American Theater
Join DCPL for a hard hat tour of Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater led by Clark Construction. Designed by noted modernist Harry Weese, Arena's original performance space, the Fichandler Stage, was built in 1960 and was a prominent element in the Soutwest urban renewal program. In January 2008, Arena Stage broke ground on its impressive expansion designed by Bing Thom Architects. When completed, Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater will be the largest national center for the production, presentation, development and study of American Theater.

Walking Tours of St. Elizabeths West Campus
DCPL and GSA hold monthly two-hour walking tours of St. Elizabeths West Campus that are free and open to the public. The campus, where construction began in 1852, is a National Historic Landmark.
Monthly tours of the property will resume March 2010.

HPRB Designates Woodrow Wilson High School
On February 25th, the DC Historic Preservation Board (HPRB) unanimously voted to list the Woodrow Wilson High School, 3950 Chesapeake Street, NW, in the DC Inventory of Historic Sites. Built in 1935, the school was designed collaboratively by Municipal Architect Albert Harris and upon his death, architects Frederick V. Murphy, Edward W. Donn and Nathan C. Wyeth. Planning is currently underway for the modernization of the school (also approved by HPRB,) which is to be completed by the start of the school year 2011.

Historic Preservation Advocacy Week
DCPL is proud to be a local sponsor of Historic Preservation Advocacy Week that includes the National Historic Preservation Tax Credit Conference, the National Council of State Historic Preservation Officers Conference and Preservation Action's Lobby Day. This year's events are being held from March 1 - 5, 2010, at the Mayflower Hotel. Click here for more information on the conference.
On Friday, March 5th, DCPL will host a tour for conference attendees of tax credit projects including The Roosevelt, 2101 16th Street, NW, The Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street, NE, and the Woodward Building at 15th and H Streets, NW. If you are attending the conference, we hope you'll join us for the tour from 2:30-4:30 pm.
