DC Preservation League Annual Fundraiser

Preservation Now: Building on the Historic

Purchase your tickets online today! Click Here

It's not too late to join the Board of Trustees, staff and DCPL's individual and corporate sponsors at the annual fundraising event at the recently reopened St. Regis Hotel, 923 16th Street, NW from 6:30 - 9:00 PM.

The St. Regis Hotel, designed by local architect Mihran Mesrobian in 1926, is a fitting venue for the DC Preservation League's 2008 fundraising reception. The reception will celebrate the re-opening of this prestigious hotel and downtown landmark which first opened its doors in October 1926 as the Carlton Hotel. Mirroring the ambitions of the St. Regis founder, John Jacob Astor IV, local real estate developer Harry Wardman sought to provide Washington with a sophisticated establishment that would surpass the very best European luxury hotels of the day.

In December 2007, the St. Regis Washington, DC re-opened following a 16-month renovation to become, once again, the capital's most luxurious hotel. The renovation has provided a complete makeover of guest rooms, meeting rooms and the St. Regis Athletic Club, as well as the historic lobby, the Astor Ballroom and the Astor Terrace.

Most Endangered Places

Nominations for inclusion in the 2008 list are due Friday, February 8th.

Since 1996, DCPL has created a list of Washington's Most Endangered Places. Publicity generated by this list brings attention to the condition's of threatened sites and helps raise the public's general awareness of historic preservation. The annual list is not restricted a fixed number of sites and the release of the list has become a media event held in May as part of DCPL's Preservation Month activities.

Lobby Day 2008

Preservation Action, the grassroots lobby for historic preservation (and DCPL's subtenant) needs help! They're looking for guest rooms to house those coming in from out of town for their annual meeting and Lobby Day March 3 - 4. People generally get into town on the Sunday before the two-day event, so visitors would need a room the 2nd, 3rd, and possibly 4th of March. If you have a guest room and would like to make this available to traveling advocates, please contact Amanda McDonald at amcdonald@preservationaction.org or call 202-637-7873.
