Did you Know?
In 1973 and 1974, DCPL - then known as Don't Tear it Down - led the charge to save the Willard Hotel, a prominent beaux arts landmark then slated for demolition. DTID filed the 11th hour law suit that resulted in halting the demolition of Washington's leading historic hotel. Twenty years after its rehabilitation and return to service, the Willard InterContinental Hotel will be the location of DCPL's 35th Anniversary Celebration on January 25, 2007.

Why am I a DCPL Member?
Name: Kevin Locke
Profession: Consultant
Neighborhood: Brightwood
DCPL member since 2003
My neighborhood has DC's only Civil War battlefield and is the site of an early settlement of freed African Americans in Washington.
DCPL has been working with the community towards historic district designation and is sponsoring the University of Maryland's Historic Preservation Studio class as they survey the neighborhood's historic resources and identify individual landmarks, contributing structures and areas suitable for potential development. I'm grateful because DCPL's work will provide our neighborhood with the tools to preserve our unique buildings and historical places.
