Heritage Neighborhood Day Celebrates DC’s Diverse Resources

The Second Annual DC Heritage Neighborhood Day is set for Saturday, June 2. Neighborhood Day is a celebration of the city's "off the Mall" cultural and historic treasures, and this year 70 locations in 14 city neighborhoods across the city have put together a full day of events highlighting the rich heritage and culture of the city beyond the monuments. Planned by neighborhood leaders and cultural institutions, and organized under the auspice of the DC Heritage Tourism Coalition, most of the events are free and will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Events will take place in every quadrant of the city and include a parade and picnic in Southwest; Civil War re-enactors on the C&O Canal and throughout Georgetown; tours of Embassy Row; a hike in Watts Branch Park in Marshall Heights; the opening of the Columbia Heights Community Marketplace; a trolley tour of historic Brookland, a Washington Symphony Orchestra concert in Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park; a walking tour of Bellevue tucked away in the corner of Southwest on the east side of the Anacostia River, a walking tour of Congress Heights; a tour of Old Anacostia, Washington's first planned suburb, led by Dianne Dale, and much more.
