House History Workshop
March 7 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join the DC Preservation League and Historical Society of Washington, DC for a hands-on workshop to guide discovery of the history of houses and other buildings in Washington, DC.
City directories, street photography, and real estate atlases are critical resources when researching the city’s built environment. In this three-hour workshop, you will learn to use these resources available in the Kiplinger Research Library to research buildings of your choosing. The workshop will also cover useful digital resources such as the History Quest platform, Wymer’s DC, the Recorder of Deeds tax assessment database, and others that can be used to continue your research at home.
Historical Society staff will help guide your research and the DC Preservation League will be also on hand to help tackle your preservation questions. PLUS you’ll receive a high-resolution image of your choice from the John P. Wymer or Emil A. Press photograph collections!
Spots for this workshop are limited in order to provide a more in-depth, hands-on experience. Staff will prepare materials in advance (e.g. neighborhood photos) for review based on each participant’s research property. Advanced ticket purchase required. Discounted tickets available for members of the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. and the DC Preservation League.
Tickets are $40 for DCPL and HSW members, $50 for non-members.
Please note there are two identical sessions offered on March 7, 2020; please only register for one session.
